DEADLINE TO PRE-REGISTER FOR JOB FAIRS (all students)
The deadline to pre-register for the following job fairs is Friday, April 24 at 5:00 p.m.: Southeastern Minority Job Fair (SEMJF), Atlanta, GA (open to all rising 2L and 3L students as well as class of 2009 graduates), Southeastern Law Placement Consortium (SELPC), Atlanta, GA (rising 2L and 3L students), Washington, DC Interview Program (WDCIP), Washington, DC (rising 2L and 3L students) and the West Coast Interview Program (WCIP), Santa Monica, CA (rising 2L and 3L students).

Copies of the pre-registration form are available in the CDO, Room A-112. You may submit your pre-registration form to Nirva Pierre-Louis via email or by dropping off your form at the CDO.

This will be the last "This Week at the CDO" for the 2008-2009 academic year. Best of luck on finals and congratulations to all graduating students.

CDO SPRING UPDATE, JOB FAIR INFORMATION AND JOB FAIR PRE-REGISTRATION FORMS TO BE EMAILED TODAY (all students)
Later today, the CDO will be emailing a Spring 2009 CDO Update to all 1L and 2L students as well as job fair information to all students. The email will be sent to the email address listed on students' Symplicity accounts. Students interested in participating in certain job fairs must pre-register with the CDO. These job fairs are denoted in the email. Pre-registration forms will be due on April 24 at 5:00 p.m. and may be emailed to Nirva Pierre-Louis or dropped off at the CDO in Room A-112.

JUDICIAL CLERKSHIP PANEL DISCUSSION
Students interested in post-graduate judicial clerkships are strongly encouraged to attend the Judicial Clerkship Panel Discussion on Tuesday, March 31 at 12:30 p.m. in Room 109. Federal judges and former law clerks will discuss clerkships, how and when to apply, what judges look for in candidates and how to best prepare for a clerkship. The CDO particularly recommends that all 2Ls who are interested in clerking after law school attend but all students are welcome.

Student Programs, Internships, Scholarships and International Careers for Lawyers in the State Department
U.S. Department of State Diplomat in Residence Hilarion "Lari" Martinez will speak to UM law students about the many opportunities available to attorneys in the civil and foreign service. The event, titled “Student Programs, Internships, Scholarships and International Careers for Lawyers in the State Department” will take place on Wednesday, March 11, 2009 at 12:30 pm in Room 352.

A Cuban-born Miamian, Mr. Martinez entered the U.S. Diplomatic Service in 1986, after a five-year legal career with a major Miami law firm. Mr. Martinez held numerous assignments at U.S. Embassies and Consulates in Latin America and Europe, including serving as Consul General in Bosnia and Greece. Most recently, Mr. Martinez was in Washington, D.C. with the Office of Foreign Missions as Chief of a Regulatory Compliance Unit. Mr. Martinez is now serving as Diplomat in Residence at Miami-Dade College and Florida International University until July 2009.

11th ANNUAL INFORMATIONAL CAREER FAIR (all students)

The Informational Career Fair is an excellent opportunity to meet practicing attorneys from law firms, corporations, government agencies and public interest organizations and ask questions about their various practices. Don't miss this chance to network with practitioners. The Informational Career Fair will take place on Wednesday, March 4 from 12:30 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. in the Student Lounge. You need not dress up to attend.


DEADLINE TO APPLY FOR HOPE FELLOWSHIP (1L and 2L students) The HOPE Public Interest Resource Center provides stipends to law students who work in otherwise uncompensated public interest jobs in exchange for a year-commitment to actively serving on the Public Interest Leadership Board. HOPE’s success and growth over the past 10 years is due largely in part to the energy, dedication, and leadership of former and current HOPE Fellows.


HOPE Fellows work with domestic and international public interest agencies & non-governmental organizations to provide much-needed legal advocacy to underserved and marginalized populations. All 1Ls and 2Ls are encouraged to apply.

FLORIDA SUPREME COURT INTERNSHIP PROGRAM INFORMATION MEETING (1L and 2L students)
The Florida Supreme Court Internship Program Information Session takes place on Monday, February 23 at 12:30 p.m. in Room 110. Former interns will be on hand to answer questions about their experiences at the Supreme Court. The application and selection processes will also be discussed.

Applications for the summer 2009 Florida Supreme Court Internship Program for Distinguished Law Students are now available in the Career Development Office, Room A112. First and second year students are eligible to apply. The application deadline is Friday, February 27, 2009.

HOW TO MANAGE YOUR LOANS AND LAND THE RIGHT JOB (all students)
The CDO and the Office of Financial Aid present "How to Manage Your Loans and Land the Right Job" with guest speaker Alexander Rundlet, an associate at Podhurst Orseck. Prior to joining the firm, he worked in the public sector in several capacities, as a federal law clerk, a post-graduate fellow and public defense attorney. Mr. Rundlet will share his experience in meeting his financial obligations on a public sector salary and the CDO and Office of Financial Aid will offer tips on how to manage your student loans at various pay levels.

STUDENT JUDICIAL CLERKSHIP PANEL (1L and 2L students)
Interested in applying for a post-graduate judicial clerkship? The judicial clerkship application process begins as early as the spring semester of your second year. To help you get started, current students who have successfully navigated the judicial clerkship application process will speak about their experiences and provide tips on how to secure a clerkship. The deadline to submit your application to participate in the Eleventh Judicial Circuit of Florida Spring Judicial Internship Program is Thursday, January 22 at 5:00 p.m. Applications can be submitted in hard copy to the CDO in Room A-112 or to Nirva Pierre-Louis via email. All students who apply will be assigned to a judge. Information about the program and copies of the application are available on the CDO Student Portal. All students who apply must attend an orientation session on Tuesday, January 27 at 5:30 p.m. in Room 110.

LEARN HOW TO PARTICIPATE IN OCI
First time participating in OCI? Not sure how to use Symplicity for OCI purposes? Then attend the OCI Information and Symplicity Training Session on Thursday, January 22 at 12:30 p.m. in Room 108 and get all the information you'll need to successfully participate in Spring OCI.

DEADLINE TO APPLY FOR THE FLORIDA BAR FOUNDATION FELLOWSHIP
Get paid to do meaningful public interest work this summer by applying to the Florida Bar Foundation Fellowship. The online application and other material can be found on the Foundation's homepage.
