CDO SPRING UPDATE, JOB FAIR INFORMATION AND JOB FAIR PRE-REGISTRATION FORMS TO BE EMAILED TODAY (all students)
Later today, the CDO will be emailing a Spring 2009 CDO Update to all 1L and 2L students as well as job fair information to all students. The email will be sent to the email address listed on students' Symplicity accounts. Students interested in participating in certain job fairs must pre-register with the CDO. These job fairs are denoted in the email. Pre-registration forms will be due on April 24 at 5:00 p.m. and may be emailed to Nirva Pierre-Louis or dropped off at the CDO in Room A-112.

JUDICIAL CLERKSHIP PANEL DISCUSSION
Students interested in post-graduate judicial clerkships are strongly encouraged to attend the Judicial Clerkship Panel Discussion on Tuesday, March 31 at 12:30 p.m. in Room 109. Federal judges and former law clerks will discuss clerkships, how and when to apply, what judges look for in candidates and how to best prepare for a clerkship. The CDO particularly recommends that all 2Ls who are interested in clerking after law school attend but all students are welcome.

Student Programs, Internships, Scholarships and International Careers for Lawyers in the State Department

U.S. Department of State Diplomat in Residence Hilarion "Lari" Martinez will speak to UM law students and alumni about the many opportunities available to attorneys in the civil and foreign service. The event, titled “Student Programs, Internships, Scholarships and International Careers for Lawyers in the State Department” will take place on Wednesday, March 11, 2009 at 12:30 pm in Room 352.

A Cuban-born Miamian, Mr. Martinez entered the U.S. Diplomatic Service in 1986, after a five-year legal career with a major Miami law firm. Mr. Martinez held numerous assignments at U.S. Embassies and Consulates in Latin America and Europe, including serving as Consul General in Bosnia and Greece. Most recently, Mr. Martinez was in Washington, D.C. with the Office of Foreign Missions as Chief of a Regulatory Compliance Unit. Mr. Martinez is now serving as a Diplomat in Residence at Miami-Dade College and Florida International University until July 2009.

FLORIDA SUPREME COURT INTERNSHIP PROGRAM INFORMATION MEETING (1L and 2L students)
The Florida Supreme Court Internship Program Information Session takes place on Monday, February 23 at 12:30 p.m. in Room 110. Former interns will be on hand to answer questions about their experiences at the Supreme Court. The application and selection processes will also be discussed.

Applications for the summer 2009 Florida Supreme Court Internship Program for Distinguished Law Students are now available in the Career Development Office, Room A112. First and second year students are eligible to apply. The application deadline is Friday, February 27, 2009.

The CDO and the Office of Financial Aid present "How to Manage Your Loans and Land the Right Job" with guest speaker Alexander Rundlet, an associate at Podhurst Orseck. Prior to joining the firm, he worked in the public sector in several capacities, as a federal law clerk, a post-graduate fellow and public defense attorney. Mr. Rundlet will share his experience in meeting his financial obligations on a public sector salary and the CDO and Office of Financial Aid will offer tips on how to manage your student loans at various pay levels.
